10AM – 12PM Class Tent Capitan Rodrigo Luis de Alburquerque | Two Sword Fencing – Three Italian Sources Fencing with two swords simultaneously occupied an interesting position in the martial culture of renaissance Italy, as an opportunity to demonstrate martial grace in training, prowess and virtue in an organized duel, and (more rarely) as a tool of desperate defense against multiple opponents. This class will focus on a synthesis of three martial texts addressing combat between two fencers, each armed with two swords, to establish a tactical framework for approaching two sword fencing. Contrasting perspectives and preferences of the three authors will be discussed. Full contact and complete fencing kit is ideal, but observers out of gear can also benefit. Non-fencers may find interesting information about the wider martial and honor culture of renaissance Italy. Class Limit: No hard limit, but may be soft limited by the number of loaner weapons available. Age limit: Youth and adults but youth fencers must be accompanied by an adult. Young children my find the class materials frustrating. |
